Arctic Greenland Trip 2026-2028

Today, we boarded a professional polar expedition vessel at Nuuk port, officially beginning our week-long west coast expedition. In the afternoon, the ship slowly sailed out of the fjord, heading north along the coast into the famous Evighedsfjord—a deep fjord 75 kilometers long, surrounded by 1,500-meter-high mountains, with hanging glaciers lining both banks, where walruses, narwhals, and beluga whales may appear at any time. The expedition team will hold its first lecture on deck, introducing key points of Arctic geology, glaciology, and wildlife observation.

These past two days, ships have ventured deep into Greenland’s most spectacular fjord system on the west coast. Nordre Strømfjord is one of the longest fjords in Greenland, with vibrant tundra and cascading waterfalls on both banks. In the evening, the boat may dock at Kronprinsen Ejland, a labyrinth of numerous small islands, where a Zodiac inflatable boat tour offers close-up views of beluga whales, harp seals, and Arctic terns. The expedition also includes short hikes, allowing you to experience firsthand the moss-covered, wildflower-laden polar tundra.

The ship enters Disko Bay, a highlight of this trip. First, visit the heart-shaped town of Uumannaq, a living fossil of Inuit hunting culture; then arrive at Ilulissat, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where approximately 20 billion tons of ice calves daily in the Ice Bay—accounting for about 51 TP3T of global sea-level rise. We will arrange sightseeing hikes, helicopter tours, or fishing boat trips in the Ice Bay (depending on the season and boat company); afterwards, head to Eqip Sermia Glacier to witness firsthand the awe-inspiring sight of glacial calving, the thunderous roar of ice floes hitting the sea echoing through the valley. These three days will be among the most precious memories in your Arctic photo album.

The ships sailed south on their return journey, passing through Sisimiut, Greenland's second-largest city. This is one of the oldest permanent settlements north of the Arctic Circle, boasting over 4,500 years of indigenous history. You can participate in a sled dog village visit, a guided tour of the local museum, or experience Inuit daily life at a traditional salmon factory. On the 9th day at sea, the expedition will host a farewell lecture, share wildlife observation records, and invite you to reminisce about the highlights of this polar journey. Weather permitting, you may also have the opportunity to see the aurora borealis at night.

We arrived in Nuuk (Godthab) in the early morning, and after breakfast, we officially bid farewell to the Arctic expedition ship.With the awe-inspiring sights of glaciers, seabirds, and Inuit culture, you will continue your journey to the next stage. It is recommended to stay an extra day in Nuuk to participate in a humpback whale watching activity, or take a flight to Iceland/Copenhagen to connect with your return international flight.
