To answer this question, we first need to ask: if we roughly divide budgets into low, medium, and high, where would you categorize yourself?

If you're looking for the most affordable way to experience Antarctica, the total cost, including all expenses, will start from approximately USD 12,000 (about HKD 94,200 / TWD 382,000). If you prefer comfort without the extreme luxury, the total price starts from approximately USD 18,000 (about HKD 142,000 / TWD 573,000). For the ultimate luxury cruise experience, including the most expensive three-island itinerary in Antarctica, the total price starts from approximately USD 36,000 (about HKD 283,000 / TWD 1,145,000).

For the same destination, two people can spend three times as much. During the rest of the year, the sea ice is too thick to sail, and in winter, the polar night makes sailing dangerous, let alone sightseeing.

Secondly, Antarctic cruise ships have a lower passenger capacity. Because the Antarctic Treaty stipulates that a maximum of 100 people can be at the same landing point at any given time, we recommend that guests choose a cruise ship with a capacity of approximately 200 people to ensure sufficient landing time. In addition, Antarctic cruise ships must meet polar ice class standards to sail in Antarctic waters, hence their construction cost is significantly higher than that of ordinary cruise ships.

In addition, each shipping company has at least a dozen expedition members on board, including geologists, marine biologists, ornithologists, and photographers, who work on board for the entire season. Having multiple experts on-site naturally increases costs. Finally, because there are no supplies on the Antarctic shore, all food, fuel, and drinking water must be replenished in the cities where the ship embarks, and all garbage must be brought back. The ship must also be equipped with a doctor and a medical room.

Part One: Tickets 70-80% of the budget

Ferry tickets account for 70-80% of the total budget, making them the largest expense. Some cruise lines offer same-sex room sharing at the same price as double room sharing; some cruise lines sell single rooms specifically for solo travelers; and some cruise lines only consider the number of rooms, so if you wish to travel alone, you must occupy a full room and pay a single surcharge of 1.5 to 2 times the cruise fare.

If you are interested in traveling alone, you can specify this when you inquire about prices. Most cruise lines offer early bird discounts for the following season, typically a year or more in advance, with discounts reaching [amount missing].60% off the original priceIf you wish to book a two-island cruise, a single-island cruise during peak season, a three-island cruise, a combined sea and air cruise, or other special routes, the best time to book is to purchase early bird discount tickets.

If you can't get an early bird ticket, you can consider waiting for a last-minute offer (up to three months before departure). If the cruise line still has seats available close to the departure date, they will offer a discount, which can be as high as [amount missing]. 50% offAs soon as we receive the Last Minute ferry tickets from the ferry company, we will distribute them via newsletter, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Facebook.

Note: Promotional cruise tickets usually sell out within a day, and cabin options are limited, making them unsuitable for group travel. Not all off-season itineraries offer promotional tickets; higher-class or best-selling cruise lines may not offer them.

As the number of travelers to Antarctica increases, itineraries sell out faster, and cruise prices rise accordingly. For example, many itineraries to the three islands in the 2027-2028 season are already nearly sold out. Even though last-minute itineraries offer discounts, the trade-off is limited itinerary options and a limited variety of cabin types remaining. Departing from Hong Kong or Taipei.

Most Antarctic itineraries start at either Buenos Aires or Ushuaia in Argentina, or Santiago in Chile. There are no direct flights from Hong Kong or Taiwan; including layovers, a one-way trip takes at least two days, with round-trip economy class tickets starting at approximately USD 1,900.

Hotels before and after the Antarctic trip

Many cruise lines already include a pre-departure hotel stay in their itineraries. The first day is spent at the pre-departure hotel, the second day is spent flying to the port of embarkation, and the last morning is spent disembarking and then flying back to the meeting city.

Since flights from Hong Kong or Taipei to the meeting city require one or two layovers, delays in any of these leg of the journey could cause you to miss boarding. Furthermore, if your return flight with Air China is cancelled due to weather, your return date may also be postponed. Therefore, we recommend arriving one day earlier and departing one day later than planned. This means you will need to book two additional nights at your own expense.
