Overview Overview

The Atacama Desert is the driest desert on Earth and also boasts some of the purest starry skies in the world. In this surreal land, vast salt lakes, the Valley of the Moon bathed in fiery sunsets, azure highland lakes, and shimmering hot springs intertwine to create an otherworldly landscape. A leisurely four-day, three-night stay allows your body to gradually acclimatize to the high altitude, fully embracing the vastness and tranquility of the Andes.

This tour is operated by our carefully selected top-tier local Chilean partners, featuring experienced English-speaking guides familiar with the high-altitude environment and safe, reliable transportation. From the moment you are picked up at Calama Airport to your final drop-off, every step is taken care of, ensuring your peace of mind and comfort in this remote region.

We offer a wide range of options to suit your travel style: for those who prefer flexibility and privacy, there are private tours with a private car and an English-speaking guide; for those on a budget, there are group tours that visit the same classic attractions at a more affordable price. Accommodation options include a selection of charming adobe homes in the heart of San Pedro de Atacama village, and the combination of attractions and the number of days of stay can be adjusted to suit your interests—everything is tailored to you.

For many travelers, Antarctica and the Atacama represent the two extremes of a Latin American adventure: ice and fire. As a travel agency specializing in Antarctica, Let's Go to Antarctica excels at seamlessly connecting the two into a single itinerary, allowing you to experience two of Earth's most extreme wildernesses in one trip. We believe that good service is worth every investment—it reduces the worries of the journey and adds pure emotion. Feel free to chat with your polar consultant to create a personalized Atacama extension just for you.

Day 1: Arrival in Calama — San Pedro Starry Night

Arrive in Calama → San Pedro Stargazing

Upon arrival at Atacama Airport (CJC), you will be picked up by our private car and driven approximately 90 minutes along Highway 23 to San Pedro, at an altitude of 2,400 meters. The volcanic outlines and reddish-brown desert landscapes along the way foreshadow the amazing sights to come. After arriving at your carefully selected accommodation, rest and acclimatize. In the evening, you will be driven to the light-pollution-free desert wilderness, where an English-speaking guide with an astronomy background will take you on a tour using a professional telescope to observe the Milky Way, Magellanic Clouds, and Saturn's rings in the Southern Hemisphere. Atacama is one of the world's best stargazing locations, and tonight's night sky will be one of the most unforgettable nights of your life.

Day 2: Salar de Atacama + Valley of the Moon

Atacama Salt Flats + Valley of the Moon

In the morning, a private car will take you to Laguna Chaxa in the Salar de Atacama, a habitat for Andean flamingos (I'll be collecting three species: Andean, Chilean, and James). The salt crystal-covered surface of the lake shimmers like a mirror under the blazing sun. In the afternoon, after a short rest in San Pedro, we will drive into the Valley of the Moon before sunset, hiking through salt crystal caves and the Three Goddesses Rocks, finally climbing to the Great Sand Dune viewpoint to wait for the sunset to paint the entire lunar landscape in gold, red, orange, and purple—the most iconic moment of this Atacama trip.

Day 3: Highland Lakes + Red Rock Area (Full Day)

Plateau lakes + Red rock area

The entire day is spent exploring the Andean highlands at an altitude of over 4,000 meters. After departing early in the morning, the first stop is the twin lakes of Miscanti and Miñiques, where the contrast between the azure waters and the white-capped volcanoes in the background is breathtaking. Following this, we will visit the Tuyajto salt flats and the habitat of wild llamas. After enjoying a local lunch in a highland town, we will head to the highlight of the trip – the Piedras Rojas. The rust-red volcanic rock formations create a surreal scene between the pure white salt flats and the sapphire lagoon, making it one of the most photographic locations in the Atacama. In the evening, we will return to San Pedro for dinner and a good rest.

Pritama Hot Spring・Airport Drop-off

In the morning, drive to Termas de Puritama, a hot spring nestled deep in a desert canyon. Eight tiered natural hot spring pools are connected within a volcanic valley, with water temperatures maintained at 25–30°C year-round – the perfect way to relax your muscles and wash away the dust and fatigue of three days at high altitude. In the afternoon, return to San Pedro to check out, and our private vehicle will transfer you to Calama Airport to begin your journey.
