Overview Overview

If the W-shaped classic hike is the opening movement of Patagonia, then the O-shaped complete loop is an epic wilderness adventure. This loop, approximately 130 kilometers long, encompasses all the highlights of the W-shaped hike and takes you deep into the little-known "back mountains" of Torres del Paine National Park—the tranquil Serón, Dickson, and Los Perros mountain hut campsites, and the John Gardner Pass at an altitude of 1,200 meters, overlooking the southern Patagonian glacier.

This eight-day in-depth adventure is also directly operated by Las Torres Patagonia, Chile's top official operator. They control extremely limited daily slots and provide full logistical support at back mountain camps such as Serón, Dickson, and Los Perros, making them one of the few official partners capable of safely guiding travelers through the complete loop. The loop is only open from November to March each year, and slots often sell out six months in advance—entrusting your trip to us ensures your slot is more secure thanks to our extensive network.

Even the most challenging loop tours remain flexible. You can choose the pure luxury of camping throughout, upgrade to the comfort of mixed-use accommodations where mountain huts are available, or even treat yourself to a superior room at Hotel Las Torres on the final night of the loop. You can hike independently or opt for a guided tour with an English-speaking guide. We will tailor every detail to your fitness level, budget, and expectations. The challenge is yours, and we'll take care of you.

As a travel agency specializing in Antarctica, Let's Go to Antarctica understands best how to seamlessly integrate this extreme circuit with your grand Antarctic adventure—Torresponding to Punta Arenas, the departure point for Antarctic flights, is the ideal proving ground for adventurers before setting off. From securing rare spots and flight connections to every detail, we personally oversee everything, allowing you to focus on the scenery and the challenge itself. Ready to take on the complete circuit? Chat with your polar consultant and let us tailor this epic Patagonian journey just for you.

Day 1: Heading into the Wilderness—The Eve of the Expedition to Puerto Natales

Porto Natales → Camp Seron

Departing from Puerto Natales in the morning, you'll be transported to the central region of Torres del Paine National Park by a private Las Torres Patagonia bus. Upon arrival, the reception team will assist with check-in, distribute welcome packs, and provide a detailed briefing from the tour leader—covering weather conditions for the 8-day expedition, pass-crossing strategies, equipment checks, and daily pacing. Enjoy a hearty dinner at the park's restaurant in the evening, making final preparations for tomorrow's epic expedition amidst the tranquility of the mountains.

Days 2–3: Explore the Hidden Gems—Dixon and Perros Glaciers

Back Hill: Dixon, Peros

Two days were dedicated to officially entering the most secluded and least accessible "back" side of the Torres del Paine O-shaped loop. The first day involved traversing ancient beech forests and vast pampas, arriving at the Serón campsite in the evening. The second day followed the edge of Lake Dickson, with the blue and white tongue of the Dickson Glacier, stretching across the Argentine border, slowly flowing into the lake. The scenery along the way was sometimes expansive, sometimes winding, finally reaching the Los Perros campsite, where one could admire the eponymous hanging glacier from afar. These two days were the most wild and physically demanding part of the O route, but the relatively tranquil trails and unique experience of the secluded mountain retreat offered a privilege unavailable on the W route.

Day 4: The Pinnacle of Victory—Crossing the John Gardner Pass

Day 4: The Pinnacle of Victory—Crossing the John Gardner Pass

John Gardner Pass → Grey Glacier

The most challenging yet rewarding day of the trip is about to begin. Starting at dawn, we traverse the frosty alpine tundra from the Perros camp, ascending steep slopes to the Paso John Gardner Pass at approximately 1,200 meters. The moment you cross the pass, the entire South Patagonian ice sheet and the 6-kilometer-wide Grey Glacier unfold silently beneath you, your vision stretching beyond the snowline of the Andes—a sight witnessed only by a select few who have completed the O Circuit. In the afternoon, we descend along steep stone steps and suspension bridges to the Grey area for the night. Make sure to go to bed early to allow your muscles to recover and process the day's awe.

Gray ↔ French Valley

After conquering the pass challenge, the classic section of the W route officially begins. The first day involves hiking along the shores of Lake Grey, with options for side trails offering close-up glacier views or a catamaran trip on Lake Peoé to conserve energy. Arrive in the Penne Grande area in the evening for an overnight stay. The second day features the highly acclaimed Valle del Francés hike, ascending for approximately two hours from the Italian Creek campsite to a viewpoint. Directly ahead lies a glacial theater—the roar of avalanches and calving ice rises and falls, flanked by the sharp silhouettes of Penne Grande and the Two-Tone Horn. After completing the most beautiful "W section" of the O route, return to camp for rest.

Day 7: Mountain Views – Horn Peak Trail

Horn Peak Trail

Today's pace is relatively relaxed. Starting from the French/Horn Peak camp, we'll proceed along the Emerald Lake shoreline of Lago Nordenskjöld towards the central area, a distance of approximately 11 kilometers. The entire route is accompanied by the two-tone Horn Peaks, offering excellent vantage points for capturing the classic "black cap, white body" mountain formations on the O loop. Numerous wildflower meadows, water stations, and small waterfalls along the way provide a rare opportunity to slow down, observe the ecology, and connect with other hikers during this 8-day expedition. We'll return to the central area in the evening for a hot meal and a comfortable night's sleep, replenishing our energy for tomorrow's grand finale at the Three Towers.

Day 8: The Final Chapter of Glory – The Torres del Paine Base Camp Successfully Concluded

Torres del Paine → Porto Natales

The glorious final chapter of the circuit. Before dawn, led by a guide from Las Torres Patagonia, embark on a one-day round trip hike of approximately 19 kilometers along the Ascension Valley. After traversing pampas, beech forests, and a final 45-minute climb up gravel slopes, you'll reach the base viewpoint at an altitude of approximately 900 meters—three giant granite towers bathed in the rose-gold sunlight, standing serenely above a turquoise glacial lake. This is the perfect ending to the 8-day expedition and an unforgettable "I did it!" moment. Descend back to the central area for a celebratory lunch, and in the evening, a private bus will take you back to Puerto Natales, completing this epic circuit.

• Extremely demanding physical challenge: The O loop involves 6 to 10 hours of hiking daily, including steep ascents and trekking in harsh weather conditions. It is not suitable for beginners and is recommended for those with experience in long-distance backpacking. • Advance booking is a must: There are very few spots available at the back campsite each day; the loop is only open from November to March of the following year and often sells out six months in advance, so be sure to secure your spot as early as possible. • Unfazed by all weather conditions: Crossing passes may involve strong winds, blizzards, or scorching sun; high-quality waterproof and cold-weather gear and sturdy trekking poles are essential for safety. • Independent hiking vs. guided tour: Independent hiking is an option; if you require an English-speaking guide for the entire trip (one guide for every 6 travelers), the cost will be approximately US$$2,379 per person.
